This project aimed to identify and map the activities and ecology of the Moreton Bay Marine Park, and, on the basis of this data, develop alternative zoning options for the Marine Park which met or exceeded the sustainability objectives while minimising the impact on the fishing and boating industries. Project Objectives
- Collect data to characterise the fishing activities of Moreton Bay (including commercial, recreational and Indigenous fisheries)
- Collect data that adequately represents the abundant biodiversity and struture of habitats and ecosystems within Moreton Bay
- Determine the impact of fishing and boating activity on Moreton Bay environment using a risk-based approach.
Develop alternative options for the Marine Parks (Moreton Bay) Zoning Plan 1997 which meet the conservation requirements of the Queensland Marine Parks Act 2004 and the ecological sustainability objectives of the Queensland Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), whilst minimising impact on fishing and boating industries (including commercial, recreational and indigenous fisheries, boating and support industries).
